The Maldon Grinch has sent a special message to Nub News readers, as he continues to raise vital funds to support those living with cancer in his journeys across the district.

The infamous Dr Seuss villain first appeared in Maldon last year and smashed his original target of £500 to raise over £4,200 for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

He has returned to the district this year to the delight of residents, who are backing his bid to raise thousands more for charity - this time for Macmillan, which supports those affected by cancer and campaigns for better care for the disease.

He has raised over £1,000 so far from his surprise visits to locations and events across the district, including the Burnham Festive Fayre earlier this month.

Addressing Nub News readers, the Grinch said: "I'm sure you've all seen me about and are aware I'm back - walking here, walking there, doing this, doing that - trying to find out what everyone's got for Christmas.

"Hello to all the lovely people of Maldon, and see me on my travels raising money for the lovely people at Macmillan."

He even revealed where he plans to be next - the Santa Fun Run this Sunday (19 December), which is being held by Maldon Cricket Club for the David Randall Foundation.

"I can tip you off with something," he said. "There's 300 Father Christmases running around like idiots this Sunday. I'm going to go down there."

The event will take place at 9am at Promenade Park.

The Grinch said: "I hope to see you all soon."
