Sixth formers at William de Ferrers School are celebrating their wonderful A-level and BTEC results today (Tuesday, 10 August), after facing a year of disruption and uncertainty due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Formal exams were cancelled for the second year in a row, which meant that students' grades were determined by teachers, based on work they produced throughout their course.

Individual stories of student achievement at the school, on Trinity Row in South Woodham Ferrers, include Josh Brough, who achieved four A*s in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Extended Project and an A in English Literature. Josh is off to Boston, USA to study music at Berklee College of Music.

Head boy Thomas Campbell has been offered a place at Manchester University to study Aerospace Engineering, after achieving three As in Biology, Maths and Physics, a B in English Literature and an A* in Extended Project.

Deputy head boy Nathan Stone is celebrating three A*s in English Literature, Government and Politics and Extended Project and a Distinction* in BTEC Sport. He is set to study Politics at Warwick University.

Jake Trevallion is leaving with four As in Chemistry, Maths, Further Maths and Physics, and will continue his studies in Physics at the University of Surrey.

Jennifer Harris is heading to the University of Reading to study History and Archaeology, after achieving four A*s in Classical Civilisations, History, Government and Politics and Extended Project.

Daisy Brabbs is preparing to study Ancient History and Archaeology at Durham University, after achieving two A*s in English Language and Literature and Extended Project, and two As in Classical Civilisations and History.

A spokesperson for the school said: "Today has been a wonderful day at William de Ferrers School as students, parents and staff celebrated the hard work and successes of our sixth form students.

"The tremendous efforts and resilience undertaken throughout their two-year courses have been rewarded.

"Every Mid-Essex secondary school adopted a meticulous approach toward the Teacher Assessed Grades over a very short period of time in which students undertook assessments in schools to support this process - the pressure on our young people was relentless.

"Nevertheless, and despite these significant and somewhat unique challenges, Mid Essex headteachers congratulate all the students across the county for what they have achieved, the incredible efforts and tenacity they have put in and wish them every success as they progress onto the next stage of their education, employment or training.

"We are very proud that students at William de Ferrers school can now celebrate a wonderful and credible set of A-level and BTEC results."

Other students who excelled in a number of their courses include: Nathan Laverack, Daniel Washer, Michael Thompson, Alex Game, George Hadley, Oliver Valentine, Samuel Jessop, Talia Swanborough and Rachel Chiverton.

A spokesperson for the school said: "The staff at William de Ferrers school congratulate our students and of course all the students across the county for what they have achieved and wish them every success as they progress onto the next stage of their education, employment or training."
