A £750,000 project to improve water resilience for customers in the Dengie Peninsula has been completed by Essex & Suffolk Water.

The work involved replacing 2.8km of ageing water main between Latchingdon and Mayland, addressing a section of pipe that had experienced repeated bursts and supply interruptions. The new main will strengthen the local network and reduce the risk of future disruption for customers in Mayland, Maylandsea, Steeple, St Lawrence and Bradwell.

The completion of the Steeple Road upgrade follows earlier investment in St Lawrence and St Lawrence Bay, bringing recent improvements in the area to more than £1.4 million.

The project was completed on time, by the water company's partner Lowmans. It combined off-road construction with a planned road closure on Steeple Road to allow the team to work safely.

Daren Still, Project Manager at Essex & Suffolk Water, said: "By renewing this stretch of main, we've strengthened the network and reduced the likelihood of further bursts and disruption for customers and road users. We'd like to thank residents, businesses and motorists for their patience while this essential work was carried out."
