The traffic plans for the comeback of Burnham-on-Crouch Carnival this month have been revealed.

The carnival is set to return on Saturday, 25 September on the High Street, and organisers have announced that the area from Chapel Road to Riverside Road will be closed to traffic from 8am until 10pm on the day.

There will be no access to traffic except emergency vehicles.

No vehicles, except stallholders, will be able to leave until 10pm.

Organiser Wayne Martin said: "Please make sure that no cars are left in the road during the closure as this affects the organisation of stalls massively."

The committee made the decision to cancel the popular event last year due to social distancing restrictions.

This year, the evening procession will not go ahead due to factors including time, safety, a lack of carnival queens and there being an insufficient number of volunteers on the committee.

But the hotly-anticipated day of celebrations remains action-packed with a wide variety of entertainment from 10am, including a tug of war, circus workshop, fancy dress competition, fire act and carnival draw.

Other acts to perform on the day include local dance groups Epic Dance and E and E Dance, juggler Steve Arnold and Graeme Matthews from Britain's Got Talent.

Wayne said: "It's been a difficult year to organise.

"Hopefully, the day will be a success and the town will come out and support us."
