Organisers of the Great Burnham Bonfire are encouraging residents to attend their helpers meeting this Friday (29 October), so that the town can celebrate bonfire night in style this year.

The free event, hosted by St Mary's Church in Burnham-on-Crouch, is set to take place on the evening of Saturday 6 November, after it was cancelled last year due to the pandemic.

Anyone who is interested in helping on the night is invited to attend the helpers meeting, which will be held at 7.30pm at St Mary's Church, on Church Road.

Organisers need help to set off the fireworks on the night and to build the bonfire on the Friday (5 November).

A spokesperson for the church said: "Feel free to pop along for an hour or longer if you can.

"Big thanks for the wood that has been delivered so far, but please remember we are asking for clean wood only - please note no glass, asbestos, plastic, mattresses, garden waste, paint or metal."

Fire building will begin at 9am on the Friday (5 November) while the safety briefing for the event will take place at 5pm on the Saturday (6 November).

Gates will open to attendees at 6pm on the night, the bonfire will be lit at 6.30pm and the firework display will follow shortly after.

You can contact the church via email at [email protected].
