More than 650 visitors turned out for the South Woodham Ferrers Beer and Cider Festival, organised by the Maldon and Dengie branch of CAMRA.

Running from Thursday 5 to Saturday 7 October, the annual beer festival was held in the town's Village Hall. It sought to raise funds for the RNLI Burnham-on-Crouch Lifeboat Station, the organisers' chosen charity.

James Burrell-Cook, Chairman of the Maldon & Dengie branch of CAMRA, said: "We are delighted to be working closely with the Burnham-on-Crouch Lifeboat Station to support the RNLI at this year's festival. Over the past fifty years, it's estimated they have saved over sixty lives and answered well over a thousand calls for help."

"We've had lots of lovely comments from visitors to say what a great selection of ales and ciders we had, including many from local breweries."

A special award was presented to Gill and the team from Maldon's Mighty Oak Brewery. Their 'Oscar Wilde' ale won gold at the Champion Beer of Britain awards, in the East Anglian division.

The festival featured 36 beers from all over the UK, covering a wide range of beer styles and strengths to suit all palates. There were also 17 ciders on offer.

It was the 11th annual beer festival held in South Woodham Ferrers.
