Volunteers of the Burnham-on-Crouch RNLI were called to help people in the water yesterday afternoon (Thursday, 11 November), after a car became stranded in the River Crouch.

Members of the crew were called on for assistance by the HM Coastguard for the second time in two days, following reports of a car in the River Crouch in South Woodham Ferrers with people in the water.

A spokesperson for Burnham-on-Crouch RNLI said: "The Atlantic Class lifeboat Tony & Robert Britt was immediately launched but was hampered by poor communications with HM Coastguard."

The boat is among the fastest in the RNLI fleet.

The spokesperson continued: "Given the nature of the tasking, the lifeboat carried on and upon arrival on scene found the police, fire and ambulance services were already in attendance and had removed the occupant from the vehicle to a waiting ambulance.

"Burnham-On-Crouch RNLI volunteers were then stood down and returned to station."

The crew is currently seeking more volunteers to help save lives at sea.

Residents can get involved both afloat and onshore, as the team is looking for volunteers in all roles - operational, support and fundraising.
