Businesses across Burnham and the Dengie are being encouraged to apply for the remaining grant funding available to adapt how they operate to reduce the risk of Covid-19 spreading, as the deadline approaches.

Essex County Council's Business Adaptation Grant scheme, organised by Maldon District Council, offers businesses from the district up to £5,000 to install Covid safety measures and help them continue to trade in the run-up to Christmas.

The deadline to apply for the scheme is Friday, 31 December.

Councillor Richard Siddall, leader designate of the district council, said: "I would really urge small and medium sized businesses to consider applying for a grant under this scheme, before it closes on 31 December.

"There is nothing to lose by applying and, if successful, it could really help them to make adaptations and improvements."

Businesses who have previously been awarded a grant under the scheme over two months ago can apply again and claim up to £5,000 for works undertaken since 1 June if they meet the criteria.

Those requiring additional support in the run up to Christmas, particularly in the hospitality sector, can apply for funding to invest in seating, shelter and lighting to enable outdoor trade.

Businesses have previously used the grant for measures including signage and sanitation equipment, tables and chairs for outdoor dining, setting up contactless payments, enabling home working and increasing their online presence.

Businesses can apply here before the scheme closes on 31 December.
