Mangapps Railway Museum has created a signed route through Mangapps Farm to enable safer pedestrian access to the railway and museum.

The new route enables pedestrians to access the site via Mangapp Chase or the public footpath just beyond the Matthew Homes development on Southminster Road.

Mangapps Railway Museum is a privately-owned working railway and museum, established on Mangapps Farm in Burnham-on-Crouch.

It decided to create the new pedestrian route after receiving a number of enquiries from residents about how to access the railway on foot without crossing the part of Southminster Road that has no footpath.

It features a three-quarter mile standard gauge passenger carrying line, with restored stations, signal boxes and ancillary equipment removed from various sites in East Anglia and beyond.

The railway has a variety of steam locomotives, while the museum is home to one of the largest and most comprehensive collections of railway items in Britain.
