A successful gaming project has returned to the Maldon district to provide young people in the district with a safe social space to share their interests.

The Power of Gaming project was relaunched by the Maldon and District Community Voluntary Service (CVS) with a five-hour gaming session during the Maldon Christmas Festival on Thursday (25 November).

The project was previously run by Aztec Gaming, on Maldon High Street, but took a break during the pandemic.

The project, now led by Maldon and District CVS, aims to provide a safe social space for young people in the district to share their interest in gaming, build skills and social connections and try new things.

Jay Gaffney, the founder of Power of Gaming, said: "It was great to be back for the Christmas Festival - with the exception of 2020, we have been part of the event for the past three years and we were pleased to see so many familiar faces alongside new people.

"Everyone had a great time."

The relaunch event, at Maldon Town Hall, was funded by a grant from Maldon District Council's Livewell Fund.

It is hoped that it marks the start of regular events in the district for young people.

Sarah Troop, director of Maldon and District CVS, said: "Power of Gaming offers a unique opportunity for young people to come together.

"Through gaming they can share skills, build friendships and confidence and we are pleased to play a part in growing this opportunity in our district.

"We are working with Jay and partners such as the Maldon Activity Centre, Active Essex and Maldon District Council to set up regular sessions for the young people in Maldon - dependent on funding, we hope this will be available in the New Year."

Anyone interested in keeping up to date is invited to join the Power of Gaming Facebook page here, or you can contact Maldon and District CVS on 01621 851891 or by emailing [email protected].
