Burnham-on-Crouch and Dengie residents are being urged to find out whether they are eligible to save money on their fuel bills this winter, under a new scheme which aims to make homes in the district more energy efficient.

Through the Green Homes Grant scheme, funded by the Government, residents can apply to increase the warmth in their home through a wide range of insulation measures and renewable heating technologies.

The measures include air source, ground source and hybrid heat pumps, and are designed to support residents in reducing their impact on the environment.

The scheme is open to homeowners, private tenants and people in social housing, where the home has a low energy rating and a low annual income.

Councillor Richard Siddall, leader designate of Maldon District Council, said: "As we move into winter and we depend on our heating systems more, the Green Homes Grant scheme offers vital improvements that could see many people across the Maldon district who are on a low income and finding it hard to heat their home benefit from measures that could see them being warmer, reduce their bills, and decrease their home's impact on the environment."

Warmworks, which is delivering the scheme on behalf of Maldon District Council, will arrange a survey in the homes of eligible residents to agree the works that will be carried out.

An accredited and registered subcontractor team will complete the works, which will then be assessed against quality standards.

Warmworks will also arrange for a full annual service to be completed 12 months after the installation.

Councillor Siddall added: "Warmworks has a strong track record of delivering schemes that have helped more than 25,000 households across the UK to improve the heating in their homes, and be happier, healthier and more comfortable in them.

"I'd encourage everyone in the Maldon district to check if they are eligible to receive help from the Green Homes Grant scheme."
