A family fun session for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) will be held in Burnham-on-Crouch in August, following the success of taster sessions in May.

Families of children with SEND living in the Dengie will be able to take part in multisport and craft activities while making local social contacts at the event. It will be held at Riverside Park in Millfield, Burnham-on-Crouch, from 10.30am to 12pm on 11 August.

Organiser Suzanne Milne said: "The sessions have been set up in response to families highlighting the need for provision to support their children with SEND and their family.

"Currently, there is a lack of local provision and support - resulting in families feeling isolated within their community."

Maldon district is currently one of only three districts in Essex which has no school provision for children with SEND.

The event follows two multisport taster sessions held on 31 May, which brought families together in efforts to improve local provision for children with SEND in the Dengie.

Suzanne, who works as a community engagement officer at Essex Child and Family Wellbeing Service, said: "Since the first session, we have increased awareness of these needs and already started to see positive changes happen.

"This second event is to celebrate those successes, listen to families and children's voices and co-design next steps for further development whilst all having fun in the community as a family."

The session is being co-delivered by Essex Family Wellbeing Service, United in Kind and Ability Using Sport, with additional partner services attending and contributing.

Siblings are welcome to stay and enjoy the activities. Parents are required to stay, but there will be staff to support the children during the activities.

Families will receive freebies and resources at the event.

There are 30 family places available at the session - to book your place email Kevin at [email protected]. You will need to provide the number of adults and number of children and ages you want to book on.
