A driver who was stopped on Maldon Road after allegedly exceeding the speed limit also tested positive for cannabis, officers have said.

The roads policing team at Essex Police were carrying out patrols across the Maldon district when they stopped the driver, on Maldon Road in Great Totham, for exceeding the speed limit and driving while disqualified.

The driver was allegedly driving at 36mph, while the speed limit for the road is 30mph.

Officers then carried out a DrugWipe test on the motorist, who tested positive for cannabis.

A spokesperson for Essex Police said: "The driver was arrested for the three offences and taken into custody."

The roads policing team also carried out speed checks during patrols on Fambridge Road in Maldon, which resulted in several motorists being stopped and reported for driving offences.

The spokesperson said officers patrolled the area as it is "residential with a school along the road" and the force had received complaints regarding "excessive speed in the area".
