The sun is set to shine as the popular Burnham-on-Crouch Carnival returns to the High Street tomorrow (Saturday, 25 September), after last year's carnival was cancelled due to the pandemic.

Entertainment will kick off at 10am, and includes a tug of war, circus workshop, fancy dress competition, fire act and carnival draw.

There will be no procession this year, after organisers were forced to cancel it due to factors including time, safety, a lack of carnival queens and there being an insufficient number of volunteers on the committee.

Acts that are set to perform to attendees tomorrow include local dance groups Epic Dance and E and E Dance, juggler Steve Arnold and Graeme Matthews from Britain's Got Talent.

There will be fairytale princesses walking around and helping with the children's fancy dress competition at 1.45pm, which will take place at the Clock Tower.

Over 20 characters from Blackwater Pirates, Essex Cosplay and A Fairytale Dream will be attending the carnival throughout the day - one person from each group will judge the children's fancy dress competition.

The characters will also be walking around with buckets to raise money for the charities which apply for funding after the carnival.

A spokesperson for the event said: "Please stay safe, respect each other and let's just have some fun and enjoy the day safely.

"It's the only carnival event that has happened in this area and we have been working so hard to put something on for the town.

"Hopefully we will be back to normal next year with a big procession."

From 6.30pm, there will be live music with Livy English, Craic Heads and Michael Joslin - band T-Bone Steak will round off the celebrations at 9.30pm.

The High Street will be closed between Chapel Road and Riverside Road from 8am to 10pm - residents must remove cars by 8am to comply with the road closure.
