Burnham-on-Crouch 10K returns to the town after 18 months
The annual Burnham-on-Crouch 10K will be held once again in the town this weekend, after its cancellation last year due to Covid.
The race usually takes place on the Bank Holiday Monday in May, but had to be postponed from an earlier date this year due to continuing lockdown restrictions.
Participants will set off from the Dengie Hundred Sports Centre on Sunday (17 October), moving through the coastal paths on the seawall of the Dengie and across open countryside before running back through the main streets of Burnham to finish at the sports centre.
The Rotary Club of Burnham-on-Crouch and Dengie Hundred has organised the event in the town for the past five years.
Alan Paterson, from the rotary club, said: "Each year that we've run it, we've had around 350 runners.
"We've got 300 runners already registered this year, so we'll probably get to 350 and hopefully even more."
He added: "It's a fun event and all the funds go to charity.
"Everybody gets a goody bag at the end and a medal."
Councillor Vanessa Bell, the town mayor, will be there to see participants off as they begin the race at the sports centre at 10am.
Online entry has now closed, but residents can sign up to the race on the day.
Alan added: "The weather is looking good so it should be a good and fun day
"People can hopefully watch from around the town."
Free parking, changing and toilets will be available.
The annual date of the race is expected to return to the Spring Bank Holiday Monday in May from next year.
