A young resident of a new homes development in Burnham-on-Crouch has won a banner design competition to promote site safety.

The developer - David Wilson Homes - enlisted the help of its younger members of the Maldon Road community to try and warn other children about the dangers of playing near building sites.

Isabelle Toovey, aged 11, was crowned the winner of the competition for her artistic poster design, which was transformed into a large-scale banner and positioned adjacent to the entry of the Corinthian Place development.

Her use of bright colours and important site safety messaging such as 'No entry' and 'Children keep out' earned her a £25 book token and the chance to see her poster every time she returns to her home.

Isabelle said: "I was really excited to make this poster to help keep all the children on my estate safe.

"Building sites are dangerous places to be for children! Every time we drive home and I see the poster, I feel very proud of myself."

Annette Hurst, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes Eastern Counties, said: "Our Corinthian Place development is predominantly family orientated so it is very important to us to promote the dangers of playing on a building site.

"Many children might not realise the hazards presented by building sites and perceive it as a fun and exciting place to play, especially when spending more time at home.

"That is certainly not the case and we are very grateful to Isabelle for helping us to raise awareness and hopefully discourage children from entering building sites unattended."
