More than 1,300 people enjoyed the Langford Country Fayre and Classic Car Show held at the Museum of Power last Sunday (July 23), raising £10,700.

"I feel this event has definitely picked up this year, with the classic car show and the dog show having made an impact," Events Manager Lyz Le Fay said.

As families piled in, the museum raised the largest amount of money in its history of holding the Langford Country Fayre.

Alongside the display of classic cars, there was a wide variety of stalls, arts and crafts, food and drink, entertainment, and workshops.

Much of the museum building was closed, due to ongoing renovation works. £1.9 million is being spent to "reimagine" the museum. That includes £1.6 million from The National Lottery and £50,000 from the Garfield Weston Foundation, along with the team's own fundraising efforts.

As part of the renovations, an extension will be added to the front of the building, making more space so the museum can begin hosting coach parties. A new reception, gift shop, and café are also underway. It is hoped the museum will begin to reopen in October, before reopening fully in January 2024.

In addition to new signage and revamped exhibits, organisers are hoping to make the museum personally relevant to its visitors.

Museum Manager Debbie Thomas told Nub News: "We're trying to make our collection actually relate to the public and their stories, so it becomes even more of a community venue."

Upcoming events at the Museum of Power:

  • August 6 - Bikemeet and Record Fair
  • August 13 - Antiques Fair
  • September 3 - American Car Show
  • September 24 - Steampunk Essextraordinaire VIII - 'Under the Sea'
