The Tesco petrol station at Fullbridge, Maldon, is set to be closed until further notice, after the roof collapsed last Saturday (January 14).

A spokesperson for Tesco told Nub News the petrol station is currently "closed for repairs to the forecourt roof".

They added: "We'll keep the community updated on a re-opening date and apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused."

A "large contractor" is expected to be called in, but the spokesperson did not say how long it would take for the roof to be repaired.

Nobody was injured during the incident on Saturday evening.

Social media users have expressed their shock at the collapse, with one person describing it as "a lucky escape for staff and customers".

Pictures from the scene show the significant damage done to the petrol station, with large sheets of corrugated metal and cables hanging down from roof.
