Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome to hold event celebrating Essex history
STOW Maries Great War Aerodrome has created a new event to champion the amazing cultural heritage of Essex.
The First World War aerodrome is to hold 'A Time for Essex' - an exciting event featuring Living History displays, an historic aircraft display (weather permitting) and interactive talks - on Sunday, 25 July. Doors will open at 10am. You can see examples of some of the Living History displays by scrolling through the photos above.
While numbers are strictly controlled to maintain high levels of Covid security, the Visit England 'Good to Go' site will still welcome a throng of visitors, from near and far, to enjoy a great family day out.
CEO Ian Flint is looking forward to the event and said: "We decided it was about time we celebrated this amazing county and its heritage. We have everything from the Battle of Maldon and the Vikings up to the Living History displays of the Commandoes of the Second World War - stopping by the Witchfinders of the 16th Century and the Napoleonic Period on the way.
"Throw in the local museum pop-ups and the air show, what more could you ask for? It's all about Essex, it's all exciting and it's all here! It's going to be brilliant!"
Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome boasts Europe's largest collection of Royal Flying Corps WW1 buildings which were not adapted for further military use later in its history. During 2021, it is open to the public from 10am to 4pm, Friday to Sunday. Pre-arranged group visits, including coach trips, made by appointment. Tickets and more information are available by visiting the Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome website using the link here.
