An application to convert offices in Burnham-on-Crouch into a new flat has been rejected.

The plans involved the conversion of the first-floor offices at 106 Station Road - which is a two-storey semi-detached building - into a one-bedroom flat with a kitchen, bathroom and living area.

No external works to the building, which also houses the Computer Centre, were included in the proposal.

Refusing to grant permission for the development, district council planning officers noted that there was no designated parking space provided in the plans.

They also said that there was not sufficient information to allow the council "to determine whether adequate natural light would be provided to habitable rooms".

Officers also noted that, while the plans showed an amenity area to the rear of the site, it was not stated that the flat's occupiers would have access to the area.

This follows the district council's refusal earlier this month to grant planning permission to Brown & Co, a solicitors based in Burnham-on-Crouch, that wanted to convert its first and second floor offices into a new home following a rise in staff working remotely since the pandemic.

Officers said that it had not been "demonstrated to the satisfaction of the Local Planning Authority that the property has been appropriately marketed for its existing use, or as a redevelopment opportunity" for other commercial uses of an employment nature.
