A successful gaming scheme is returning to the Maldon district this month to provide a space for young people in the district to socialise while sharing skills and interests.

Power of Gaming will be offering fortnightly three-hour sessions at the Maldon Activity Centre, on Carmelite Way, starting 25 March.

The sessions will be for young people aged between 11 and 18 years old, and will run from 5pm to 8pm.

A spokesperson for Power of Gaming said: "The project aims to provide a safe social space for young people to share an interest in gaming, build skills and social connections and to try new things.

"Power of Gaming ran successful sessions for 11 to 16 year olds during the February half-term holidays, and so will also be looking to host events for younger people throughout the year - including school holidays."

The project was initially run by Aztec Gaming, a shop on Maldon High Street, but took a break during the pandemic.

Now led by the Maldon and District Community Voluntary Service (CVS), the scheme relaunched with a five-hour session at the Maldon Christmas Festival in November last year.

Organisers are also looking at providing sessions in Burnham and for other age groups.

The new sessions are being funded by the Essex Violence and Vulnerability Unit (VVU) and supported by the Maldon Activity Centre.

They are free to attend but must be booked in advance, with places limited.
