A MEETING of Burnham-on-Crouch Town Council yesterday evening (Tuesday, 25 May) heard that Councillor Wendy Stamp plans to tackle key issues first in her new county council role.
Independent Cllr Stamp, who is also leader of Maldon District Council, won the Southminster Division seat at the local elections on 6 May.
She told fellow councillors and members of the public at the meeting: "I attended my first county council meeting today and potholes were an issue raised several times. I managed to have a meeting with the Cabinet member responsible for highways and he is going to come to our beautiful town and the Dengie to see the things we are worried about for himself."
Cllr Stamp also said she has arranged a meeting with the Cabinet member with responsibility for schools and education on Friday.
She added: "School places and highways are the biggest issues in my email inbox. I know it's going to be hard, but I will endeavour to make the changes needed and do the best I can for this Division."
The meeting, chaired by new Town Mayor Councillor Vanessa Bell, also resolved to formally invite MP John Whittingdale to a meeting of the full council to discuss the issue of development in the town.
