The MP for the Maldon district has praised a family-run business based in the town, which specialises in emission-free, carbon-friendly products.

John Whittingdale visited Taylor Construction Plant (TCP) on Friday (12 November) to look at the dedicated division of the business which specialises in hydrogen fuel cell application, such as mobile lighting towers and off-grid power - TCP ECO.

Andrew Barker, managing director of TCP, took Mr Whittingdale around the site, on Quayside Industrial Park in Maldon, and showed him a range of equipment powered by hydrogen fuel cells.

Mr Whittingdale said: "In the week of COP26, I was delighted to visit TCP in Maldon, who are at the forefront in developing alternatives to traditional fossil fuel powered generators and lighting towers.

"It is great that a local firm is now a leader in the use of hydrogen fuel cell technology which will make a vital contribution to reducing our carbon emissions."

TCP is a family-run business, which was first established in 1989.

With depots across the UK, it aims to manage the transition from traditional fossil fuels to new renewable power sources and to provide environmentally-friendly products for customers.

A spokesperson for TCP said: "The only output [from the fuel cells] is water vapour, meaning no nasty exhaust fumes or environment-damaging CO2.

"Green energy is created from a chemical reaction between compressed hydrogen and oxygen in the surrounding air.

"The range of TCP ECO products have no risk of ground fuel spill, no emissions at source and no noise pollution.

"The TCP ECO product range is a perfect solution to reduce environmental impact.

"Products include the Ecolite CCTV, ECO-CH2, a hydrogen fuel-cell technology for off-grid power, and the Ecolite TH200, a cutting-edge hydrogen fuel-cell powered mobile lighting tower."

Andrew said: "It was a privilege to meet John Whittingdale MP and to showcase our eco-range.

"As customers look at ways to reduce their emissions, TCP is leading the way with zero emission products."

Mr Whittingdale added: "I was impressed to hear of the success of their Ecolite TH200 product, which is now used by companies across the construction and events sectors and have no doubt that the future products in development will be equally successful."
