A woman who was seriously injured following a collision near Latchingdon last week has died, Essex Police has confirmed.

Last Friday (August 18), emergency services were called to a collision on Kitts Hill along Lower Burnham Road, involving a black Ford Fiesta and a white Vauxhall Vivaro van.

The driver of the Fiesta, a woman in her sixties, sustained multiple injuries and was airlifted to Kings College Hospital in a critical condition. Sadly, she has since died.

A spokesperson for Essex Police said: "Officers from our specialist Serious Collision Investigation Unit are now investigating what happened and need anyone who saw what happened, or the lead up to it, or has any CCTV, dash cam or other footage to contact us.

"Please quote incident 461 of 18 August.

"You can let us know by submitting a report on our website or by using our online Live Chat service available Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) between 10am and 9pm."

Meanwhile, a passenger in the Fiesta, a man in his sixties, was treated in hospital and is now recovering at home, supported by his family. The driver in the Vauxhall, a man in his thirties, was also injured but not seriously.

Last Friday, a spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service told Nub News: "Two men were transported by road to Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital and Broomfield Hospital."

Three ambulances, two ambulance officer vehicles, two vehicles from the Hazardous Area Response Team, the East Anglian Air Ambulance, the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance and a car from the Essex Emergency Medical Charity 'BASICS Essex' were sent to the scene. The road was closed for several hours while emergency services attended.

Messages of condolence have been shared on social media by residents. One described the incident as "so very sad".

Thoughts are with those affected and their families at this time.
