The teenage driver of a car which overturned and caught fire in Bicknacre last week has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

The car, driven by a 17-year-old boy, was involved in a single-vehicle collision in Hyde Lane last Sunday (July 9).

The boy exited the vehicle before the emergency services arrived. He had no serious injuries, with an Essex County Fire & Rescue spokesperson describing it as "a lucky escape".

Both Maldon fire engines were called to the scene, where they found the car engulfed in flames. Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters extinguished the blaze and stabilised the vehicle.

Essex County Fire & Rescue Service (ECFRS) works closely with Essex Police through its Safer Essex Roads Partnership to help improve road safety. More information can be found on the ECFRS website.
