Police and firefighters attended the scene of a collision in Althorne, in which a family car smashed into a house on Burnham Road, last night (May 15).

A grey Ford Focus was left on its side, after smashing through a fence and into a house on the corner of Southminster Road and Burnham Road.

One resident living nearby said the car contained a man and a woman, along with a three-year-old child. They were not injured in the collision.

A spokesperson for Essex Police told Nub News: "We were called shortly after 9.50pm on Monday following reports of a single vehicle collision."

Police confirmed the vehicle was recovered the next day (May 16).

An Essex County Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson told Nub News: "Firefighters were called to Burnham Road, Althorne at 9:56pm last night.

"On arrival, crews reported that a car had collided with a house.

"Firefighters worked to make the building safe by 11:09pm."

This is not the first time a vehicle has collided with the property. In the last couple of years, it has been hit by a lorry and a motorist later performed a 'burnout' on the driveway.

Residents have urged motorists to drive more carefully in the area.
