Proposals for a 750-home development in the village of Althorne have been received by Maldon District Council.

A planning application, submitted by DMJ Althorne Ltd, says the "mixed-use residential development" will include affordable housing, education provision and enhancements to Althorne's railway station.

The large-scale development would be located south of Fambridge Road and Burnham Road, as well as east and west of Station Road.

DMJ Althorne's proposal also includes a commercial space of up to 1,000 square metres, along with allotments and public art.

A 16-hectare district park has been proposed, consisting of "associated amenity provision", a community orchard, landscaping, and a car park. A 2.4-hectare local park has also been proposed.

An early years facility has been offered along with the education provision.

Developers have proposed access enhancements, including a new pedestrian footbridge over the railway line, upgrades to Station Road, a new spine road, a modified junction at Station Road/B1010 Fambridge Road and upgrades to the level crossing at Station Road.

Pedestrianisation and relandscaping around the War Memorial has also been proposed.

DMJ Althorne has applied to build new infrastructure, such as sustainable urban drainage, mobility routes (footways and cycleways), neighbourhood play areas, and biodiversity enhancements - new hedgerow and tree planting, woodland, and reinstated historic hedgerows.
