Maldon District Council (MDC) will vote on an application to build a home on the land north of Riversleigh in Mayland next Wednesday.

The proposal involves the construction of a single-storey three-bedroom self-build dwelling on Nipsells Chase to the north of the settlement boundary of Mayland.

Planning permission has already been granted for a barn, stable and ménage on the currently vacant site.

The application follows two previous proposals for a dwelling on the site, with the first extending further to the north than the current application.

Concerns were raised over both of the previous applications regarding the impact of a dwelling on the rural character of the area - both applications were, however, withdrawn prior to being voted on by MDC.

Consultee Mayland Parish Council has recommended refusal of planning permission for the current proposal, stating that it is "outside the defined settlement boundary", "contrary to the MDC Local Plan", that "acceptance would set a bad precedent" and the "site is unsustainable".

County Highways and Environmental Health have commented on the application and raised no objections.

The final decision will be made by MDC's south eastern area planning committee on Wednesday, 18 August.
