The Chairman of Maldon District Council held a charity quiz at West Maldon Community Centre last Saturday (October 28), raising £364 for the David Randall Foundation.

Participants enjoyed the quiz, along with a raffle, 'Play your Cards Right', 'Wine or Water' and 'Closest to the Bottle' games. It was organised by Councillor Kevin Lagan, who was elected Chair of Maldon District Council in May.

"The evening was well supported and the money will help the foundation with their amazing work," Cllr Lagan told Nub News.

"The David Randall Foundation is my chosen charity as Chair of the council. I hope to run the Chelmsford half marathon in March to raise more funds."

Founded by members of Maldon Cricket Club in February 2012, the charity honours the life of an enthusiastic local cricketer named David Randall. A member of the club from the age of six, David was diagnosed with terminal cancer aged 26.

David completed the Maldon Mud Race, raising money for Macmillan nurses, less than a week before he collapsed on an aeroplane in May 2011. The collapse led to the diagnosis of David's illness and he sadly died on 6 July 2012, aged 27.

In David's memory, the foundation supports people with life limiting illnesses, by helping to provide 'Good Days' for them and their families. It also provides scholarships and Inspirational Awards to those who demonstrate "exceptional dedication" and passion in pursuing their ambitions in sport or music, but may otherwise be held back by their financial situation.
