A Maldon district councillor completed the March the Month challenge yesterday (Thursday, 30 September) to raise money for prostate cancer research in memory of her dad.
Councillor Jeanette Stilts walked 11,000 steps a day throughout September for the challenge, from Prostate Cancer UK, to represent the over 11,000 men who die from the disease each year in the UK.
Councillor Stilts wanted to raise funds for the charity while raising awareness in men of prostate cancer, after her dad died from the disease in November last year.
She walked 166.25 miles in total, which amounts to 386,453 steps, and raised £360.
This included walking her dad's favourite walk - from Clacton to Frinton.
She said: "I would like to thank everyone who supported me, and to ask all men in the district to make sure they get checked by their doctors, even if they don't have symptoms - if it is caught early it can be cured.
"Prostate Cancer UK is finding more treatments and needs money to carry on its research to save more lives."
According to Cancer Research UK, 100 per cent of people with prostate cancer will survive for five years or more when the disease is diagnosed at its earliest stage.
This figure falls to 49 per cent of people when it is diagnosed at its latest stage.
Councillor Stilts wore her Prostate Cancer UK T-shirt as she walked around the district and other areas in Essex, in efforts to raise awareness of the charity while completing the challenge.
