IN PICTURES: King Charles III’s Coronation – how the Maldon District celebrated

Over the Bank Holiday Weekend, neighbourhoods throughout the Maldon District celebrated the Coronation of King Charles III.

Street parties were held in neighbourhoods such as the aptly named King Street in Maldon, and Springfield Cottages in Heybridge.

Residents all over the Maldon District braved the weather to celebrate the first coronation for seven decades.

A vast screen in Burnham-On-Crouch's Riverside Park broadcast the coronation. In the evening, residents were invited to bring drinks and snacks for a live broadcast of the Coronation Concert – which saw acts like Lionel Richie, Katie Perry, and Take That perform at Windsor Castle.

Also in Burnham, a free party was held on St Mary's Church Green, featuring craft stalls, races, live music, and even a flight simulator.

A wide variety of festivities were held in Bradwell-on-Sea. On Sunday (May 7), following a morning service at St Thomas' Church, families took in the activities on offer at the Village Hall field. The afternoon was capped off with the announcement of the winners of the Royal Scarecrow competition, and local children were presented with commemorative mugs.

Jean Yardley, a resident of the Poets Estate in Maldon, decorated the community garden in Browning Road for the coronation.

Sue Thomson, Chair of the Poets Estate Residents Association, told Nub News: "Four years ago, the area at the end of Browning Road was overgrown and an eyesore.

"A number of Poets Estate residents decided to clear, plant and develop it under the RHS community garden scheme.

"Last year, we added a bench which is well used by young and old - and won gold and 'best in category' in the Maldon in Bloom competition. Jean enhances it with posters at various times of the year.

"We are very proud of our garden."
