Organisations are being urged to come forward with ideas for activities and events that could take place in Burnham and the Dengie's open spaces - including Riverside Park.

Maldon District Council is particularly looking for events to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee weekend, sustainable or carbon-neutral ideas and concessions that will create employment opportunities for residents.

Applications for the scheme open today (Monday, 21 February) and close on 6 March, with interested groups asked to fill in an online form with the full details of their proposed activity.

A spokesperson for the district council said: "The council aims to provide an exciting calendar of events and concessions for 2022 that will engage and entertain visitors of all ages.

"A wide range of possibilities will be considered, including activities for children, al fresco eating and drinking and proposals to improve the health and wellbeing of adults, including older people.

"As well as the popular Promenade Park, affectionately known as the Prom, which can attract more than 30,000 visitors in a single weekend, applications are also invited for other council-owned open spaces, including Riverside Park in Burnham-on-Crouch, Oak Tree Meadow in Maldon and Elms Farm Park in Heybridge."

A scoring matrix will be applied to each application to assess how its proposals fit in with the council's priorities, while favour will be given to projects that employ residents or are based in the Maldon district.
