SUPERMARKET giant Lidl has announced today (Thursday, 24 June) that it hopes to expand its network of stores across the UK - and South Woodham Ferrers is on the list of targets.

The news comes just one week after rival Aldi revealed that it hopes to find a location for a store in the town.

In its 'Site Requirements 2021' brochure, Lidl has put South Woodham Ferrers on a list of 'required store locations' for the East of England. There is an invitation for landowners and others to get in touch with the chain's Peterborough Property Office if they have a site in mind.

However, a spokesperson for Lidl said: "The brochure details the areas of interest to Lidl which are desirable for new stores - not new store plans or openings.

"It represents a long list of potential sites, and does not guarantee that a new store will be brought to this area."
