Ormiston Rivers Academy remains a 'Good' school, according to an Ofsted report published to parents last week.

Ten years on from Ormiston Rivers Academy's first upgrade to 'Good' in 2013, an Ofsted inspection has found the school to be unchanged in the learning provisions and opportunities it provides to all students.

The report, released to parents last Tuesday (July 11), says: "Most pupils enjoy attending Ormiston Rivers Academy."

It added the majority of pupils were "engaged and positive about their learning."

The report also found that safeguarding issues such as bullying and misbehaviour are dealt with "effectively", and incidents of challenging behaviour have been "successfully reduced".

However, the report suggests there is more to be done to improve the relationship between the school and parents, after changes in leadership left many parents dissatisfied. The Academy says leaders have "begun to improve communication with parents to build parental engagement".

Meanwhile, Principal Joanne Williams has said she is "thrilled" with the report.

"This positive result really is a team effort, and I would like to thank parents for their ongoing support in helping us achieve it," she said.

Three inspectors carried out the Ofsted inspection, speaking to subject leaders, teachers, and students. They examined lessons and students' work in English, Maths, Science, History, and Drama.

This is the first Ofsted inspection the school has undergone since the Covid-19 Pandemic. The mixed 11 to 18 secondary school is home to more than a thousand pupils from the Dengie area.

In May, two Sixth Form students at Ormiston Rivers Academy earned a place on a prestigious Oxbridge scholars programme.
