Burnham Week organisers are looking forward to a "busy" final day after an action-packed week which has seen highly competitive racing throughout.

The opening weekend had one of the largest entries of the annual yacht and dinghy racing event for some years, and participants have continued to enjoy racing throughout the week.

Tomorrow, Saturday 4 September, will be the most action-packed of all, with the activities starting at 11am.

The race for the town cup will begin at 11.05am from the Pile House line, and finish outside the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club.

The town cup, which is one of sailing's most prestigious trophies, will be awarded by the town mayor at the prize giving ceremony in the evening.

Burnham Week is one of the oldest regattas of its type, having first taken place in 1893.

It is organised by Burnham Week Limited, which is a company owned by Burnham's three clubs – Royal Burnham Yacht Club, Royal Corinthian Yacht Club and Burnham Sailing Club.

One of the most famous winners of the town cup, in 1972, was the then prime minister Edward Heath and his team aboard the Morning Cloud.

During the morning there will also be a duck race to raise money for the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance Trust (EHAAT).

The race will start at around 11.30am between the Royal Burnham Yacht Club and the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club.

Burnham Week's infamous fireworks will take place in the evening - which were missed by residents last year as the regatta had to be cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions.

The display will begin at 9pm and will be visible to people anywhere along the sea wall - organisers said that the "best view will be from between the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club and the Rice & Cole boatyard".
