Burnham-on-Crouch Town Council has voted to object to a proposal to build nine single-storey dwellings on Appleberry by the Gables Stoney Hill.

Members of the town council's planning committee voted last night (Tuesday, 20 July) to recommend that the proposal be refused on grounds of overdevelopment.

The plans are for the existing dwelling and outbuildings to be demolished to allow for the erection of nine single-storey dwellings, with associated cart lodges, parking, access and landscaping.

Speaking against the plans, Councillor Bob Calver said that the site has "a very poor access road, where we have reports constantly of poor access and construction traffic".

Councillor Vanessa Bell, who is also the town mayor, spoke of the proposal's "alarming size".

Councillor Calver proposed to object on grounds of overdevelopment. This was seconded by Councillor Kelvin Coles.

The objection was voted through unanimously. The final decision will be made by Maldon District Council.
