Burnham-on-Crouch rescued a broken down cabin cruiser from the water yesterday afternoon (Wednesday, 25 August), after it had been taken under tow by the Met Police Marine Unit while out on training.

The UK Coastguard requested that the Burnham RNLI crew assess the situation regarding the broken down cabin cruiser shortly before 4.30pm in the afternoon.

A spokesperson for Burnham RNLI said: "Upon arrival on scene and having assessed the situation, the RNLI volunteer helm made the decision that the safest way to assist the casualty was to take over the tow from the Marine Unit in the vicinity of Buxeys.

"A tow line was quickly established and the casualty was successfully towed into Essex Marina, being the nearest safe haven."
