Plans for another 232 homes and a community building have been submitted as an extension to an already approved retirement village in Burnham-on-Crouch.
Back on 8 October last year, Maldon District Council approved design details on a retirement development on land north-west of 2, Maldon Road.
Councillors at the October meeting could only vote on the design detail, as permission for the development had previously been given - and some members were unhappy with the scale of it, including Councillor Wendy Stamp, who described the "bulk and scale" of the complex as "huge" and "awful".
The plans already approved include 103 retirement bungalows, a 70-bedroom care home, 55-bed assisted living apartments, community centre, medical centre, sports facilities and allotments. The sports facilities will include an open air swimming pool and tennis courts – and there will be eight key workers' flats, office and maintenance buildings, too.
Now the new application proposes a subtstantial "extension" on land 250 metres north of 16A Maldon Road.
The application asks for outline planning permission for an additional 132 one, two and three-bedroom bungalows, 100 one, two, and three-bedroom apartments in two-storey buildings and a single-storey multi-use community building. The outline plans don't include much detail at this stage, but do include estate roads, footpaths and vehicle parking, allotments and hard and soft landscaping.
No date has yet been set for the plans to come before councillors.
