AN application to build an extra 15 homes on land North of Marsh Road in Burnham-on-Crouch will be heard by Maldon District Council's (MDC) District Planning Committee tonight (Thursday, 5 August).

Plans to build 90 homes at the site were given the go-ahead last year - and the current application would see extra flats on the land and some reduction in the size of the orchard in the original permission.

Documents prepared by MDC planning officers - who recommend approval of the application - for this evening's meeting show the developer - Taylor Wimpey - has agreed to make extra Section 106 contributions if the homes are approved, including a donation requested by the NHS to help local GP services cope with increased demand.

There have been no written objections by residents to the plans, but Burnham-on-Crouch Town Council, as consultee, has recommended refusal on the grounds of 'over development' of the land.
