The landlord of a Burnham pub who regularly fundraises for charity has given free Easter eggs to disadvantaged children at a Maldon school.

Lorna Hart, who owns the Victoria Inn in Burnham with husband Raymond, has already donated 25 Easter eggs to Plume Academy students and plans to give away even more through the pub's Be a Good Egg appeal.

Lorna contacted Plume as she is married to the dad of maths teacher Billy Hart.

Plume's pupil premium team then worked with the pastoral team, designated assistant safeguard lead and the SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) team to allocate the Easter eggs to 25 students who may not have otherwise received an egg this year.

It follows the pub's Give a Child a Christmas campaign last year, which saw Lorna and Raymond distribute toys to children across the district as gifts thanks to donations from customers.

Joanna Frost, pupil premium coordinator at Plume, said: "The generosity of the local community is simply amazing at a time when some families are really struggling with the cost of living crisis.

"Lorna and her customers at the Victoria Inn always support us as an academy, just like they did last Christmas.

"We are so grateful and proud to be associated with such generous and kind-hearted people such as Lorna."

The appeal aims to spread joy across the district by giving eggs donated by the pub's customers to disadvantaged children this Easter, with donations open until Monday (4 April).

A spokesperson for the Victoria Inn said: "This year, we want to help put smiles on the faces of underprivileged children in our area and you can help by being a good egg.

"All we ask you to do is bring us an Easter egg before 4 April and we will make sure it's delivered to an underprivileged child in this area in time for Easter.

"Just bring your donation to the pub and we will do the rest."

You can find the Victoria Inn on Belvedere Road in Burnham.
