Two dogs from Burnham-on-Crouch are gearing up to take on a charity fundraising walk for the second year in a row, with only a little help from their human support team.

Nancy and Oscar raised over £1000 for Cancer Research UK by completing a 5K walk following the route of the Burnham-on-Crouch Parkrun last September, and are preparing to take on the challenge again next month.

Yvonne McDermott, one of the organisers, said: "The walk is being done in memory of my brother, Patrick, who died at the age of 67 from lymphoma.

"However, other members of the group have also lost family members to cancer."

The dogs will be setting off from the picnic benches close to the Dengie Hundred Sports Centre at 10.30am on Saturday 13 November, alongside their human team - which includes their mum, Mavis, and Yvonne, Mavis' friend.

Their 5K walk will again follow the route of the Burnham-on-Crouch Parkrun and will raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK.

The cancer research and awareness charity is dedicated to saving lives through pioneering research, influence and information.

Yvonne said: "More research leads to better treatments and fewer premature deaths."

Residents are invited to join the dogs and their humans on the walk, which will cover two laps of Country Park.

"Come and join us," Yvonne added.
