Maldon Market returned to Butt Lane Car Park this morning (October 12), with a whole new line-up of stalls offering a wide range of products.
Shoppers braved the rain to show their support for independent businesses from the Maldon District and elsewhere in Essex.
Councillor Kevin Dawson-Jennings, Chair of the High Street Focus Group at Maldon District Council, described the relaunch as "absolutely fantastic".
He told Nub News: "Being a market town, this is something we've wanted for a long time. It's wonderful to see a great mix of stalls – no two are the same.
"There's an incredible vibe. It's already very busy, despite the weather, which is great. It's good to see lots of local businesses being represented as well."
Maldon Town Mayor Councillor Andrew Lay officially opened the market, joined by councillors and Suffolk Market Events officials.
"It's wonderful to see the market back in the town," Cllr Lay told Nub News.
"It's a shame about the weather, after three glorious weeks, but I feel it's a good start."
Responding to calls to hold the market on Saturdays for those at work during the week, Cllr Lay said it was important to see how the initial relaunch is received first.
"Let's walk before we run," he said.
"There is an impact on parking in the town, which is under pressure. Therefore, we need to make sure that it works for all residents, visitors, and stallholders."
Hannah Vickers, a stallholder from Chelmsford, told Nub News the market had helped generate exposure for her business, XO Dough.
"It's a new business for me - and it's definitely picking up, despite the rain," she added.
