RAF Bradwell Bay is hosting a 1940s night in Bradwell Waterside in September in efforts to bring the Dengie together.

The event will take place on 18 September at the Green Man pub in Bradwell Waterside.

Secretary Alison Coombes said: "It's free to attend in 1940s attire and a great way to bring the Dengie together for some vintage fun."

Activities will include live 1940s music, military vehicle displays, raffles and games.

The Green Man is also providing a special 1940s menu and bottled beer for the event.

RAF Bradwell Bay is a historic site in the Maldon district - at least 17 squadrons are known to have been based at the former RAF station during World War II. 130 airmen killed in the war were based at Bradwell Bay.

The RAF Bradwell Bay Preservation Group aims to preserve the site and its history, which it will retrace during the 1940s night.

Visitors will meet at the War Memorial between 12pm and 1pm and walk along the runway to view the footprints and marks left by the builders, alongside other objects of interest.

Following the walk, attendees will move onto the Green Man, which is just over half a mile from the airfield. Alison said: "It will be just as many of the people who served at the airfield did during the war. We shall walk and drink in their footsteps."

She added: "We can dance in their footsteps also, as there will be music in the afternoon and from around 7.30pm our 1940s stars, The Hotsie Totsies, will be singing and entertaining us."

Anyone can donate prizes to the raffle or auction - all proceeds will go towards the BBPG and the Air Ambulance.
