UPDATE: One fire crew remains at the scene in Asheldham as nearby residents are asked to keep windows and doors shut

By The Editor 25th Jun 2021

ONE fire crew remains at the scene of the stack blaze in Asheldam that started in the early hours of Wednesday (23 June) morning to dampen down the fire - and will stary there overnight at the incident to monitor the scene.

Nearby residents of the village are being advised by Essex Fire and Rescue Service to keep windows and doors shut as, due to wind, there is a lot of smoke being blown around - and this is likely to continue into this evening (Friday, 25 June).

Firefighters from across the county have been tackling the blaze round the clock since it started and have made good progress.

It is understood that nearby residents have supplied the crews with refreshments to help keep them going through their lengthy effort, with firefighters relieved by other crews every few hours.
