Fund to buy bleed kits in Liam Taylor's name nominated for national scheme
A family's mission to buy bleed kits for Essex venues to save lives in their murdered loved one's name has been nominated for further funding in a national programme.
The Liam Taylor Legacy Fund is a nominee in the Asda Foundation Green Token Giving scheme, which gives £500 to the winning charity and £250 each to the causes that come in second and third place in every participating store.
The fund was set up by the family of Liam Taylor, known as 'Fish', who was just 19 years old when he was stabbed to death outside the Rose and Crown pub in Writtle on 31 January 2020.
His grandmother Julie, who runs the café at St Peter's Hospital in Maldon, has been fundraising to buy bleed kits to save the lives of people in need of urgent care ever since.
She said: "Because of Liam's murder, we don't want other people to suffer.
"As a family, we are constantly fundraising to buy the bleed kits which save lives of stab victims as well as people with major bleeds from incidents like car accidents.
"We hope to place the bags in each pub in Chelmsford, Maldon and Braintree."
Bleed kits can provide immediate intervention to stop people from bleeding to death before paramedics arrive on the scene of an incident.
Several bleed kits have already gone into venues across the county - including the Queen Vic, Tesco and Morrison's in Maldon - thanks to the fund.
They cost £97.99 each.
