An amended proposal to build new homes in Stoney Hills has been given the green light by Maldon District Council.

This follows the council's approval of a controversial bid to build eight extra homes in Stoney Hills last night (Wednesday, 15 September).

The latest development means four three-bedroom chalet-style homes will be built on Oaklands Stoney Hills in Burnham-on-Crouch.

The council had already approved applications for the four homes on the land, but the most recently approved application relates to amended access arrangements and the construction of two garages on the site.

The council received two letters of objection to the plans by residents, who raised concerns including highway safety, traffic, accessibility and loss of trees.

One resident said the junction between Stoney Hills and Mill Road is "an accident waiting to happen".

She said: "There is no footpath in Mill Road, so pedestrians have to walk in the road and the traffic comes so fast.

"My two daughters walk to school and often have to jump into the hedge and ditch to keep safe.

"These additional houses will only add to this problem."

Granting permission for the development, council planning officers said the amendments to the approved scheme are "suitable in terms of design, impact on neighbours, parking, highway safety and amenity space".
