A section of path next to the marina will be inspected and repaired after its poor condition was raised at a meeting of Burnham-on-Crouch Town Council.

The path was brought up by councillors as a cause of concern, with reports of stones "sinking into the clay beneath" to form trip hazards.

Speaking at the meeting, Councillor Kelvin Coles said: "The whole path needs evaluating.

"It is used by people taking part in Parkrun and with everyone coming out of lockdown, when it starts up again the path could prove a real danger."

One of the issues town councillors discussed was who or which body is responsible for the path.

However, investigations since the meeting suggested that the affected area is part of 'footpath 11' and, therefore, likely to be the responsibility of Essex County Council.

And yesterday (Thursday, 18 March) a county council spokesperson confirmed: ""We are aware of two particular defects that are logged for repair, and our inspector will now re-visit to check the surface on the path here on Footpath 11.

"If there are found to be significant safety risks now, they will be repaired as a priority."
