Developer in bid to build five new bungalows in Latchingdon
Plans to build five new bungalows in Latchingdon have been revealed.
The plans, submitted to Maldon District Council, involve the construction of five detached three-bedroom bungalows on the land to the west of Primrose House on Burnham Road in Latchingdon.
Ten parking spaces are included in the proposal.
The district council has previously identified the need for more retirement properties in the area, as its proportion of elderly residents grows.
But applications to build new bungalows in the district have been repeatedly denied - just yesterday, a bid to turn Woodham Mortimer Golf Range into 25 bungalows was rejected by the council.
This latest planning application for Latchingdon follows the recent refusal of planning permission for five two-bedroom bungalows on the same site in August.
The only difference between the preceding and the current application is the substitution of the former two-bedroom bungalows for three-bedroom bungalows.
The developer, Woodhill Estates Ltd, said this is "directly in response to the council's change in demographic need".
It added: "Latchingdon contains a number of services and facilities that make it reasonably sustainable.
"The application site is sufficiently proximate and accessible to those services to enable a range of different transport modes, and not be totally dependent upon the private car."
It continued: "The current proposal constitutes well-designed, targeted housing provision in the right place and at the right time."
Maldon District Council will have the final say.
