A CREW from Burnham-on-Crouch Coastal Rowing Club won the prestigious Pioneer Cup on Saturday (26 June) at Brightlingsea.

The winning crew rowed their Harkers Gig Willow to first place in the event, which was the first mass-start race for the Essex coastal rowing clubs in a year-and-a-half and saw 10 mixed crew gigs racing each other around the five nautical mile course.

The winning drew consisted of Sherif Harding, Kay Tavinor, Jo Challis, Rich Robinson and Emma Richards.

The race was organised by Pioneer Sailing Trust for the Harker's Yard Gig Association clubs.
